Major Spikes in Cases of the Coronavirus Occurring Worldwide
The belief last week that the Wuhan coronavirus was finally slowing down is no longer the case. Multiple countries outside mainland China experienced major spikes in infections and deaths for the first time since the outbreak. Italy is in particularly bad shape as the number of confirmed cases jumped from three to well over 200 in just one weekend. There have also been five deaths as a result. Authorities are scrambling to track down patient zero and contain the outbreak. Bans have been put into effect for several public events, public transportation, and even public work spaces. It is Europe’s biggest outbreak. Similarly, South Korea is also experiencing a major spike in cases with 231 more confirmed this morning. Iran is no exception either, however there’s been some confusion regarding the number of deaths. The Iranian Health Ministry has only confirmed 12, while lawmakers say the number is at least 50.
