Emergency Goaltender and Zamboni Driver Shines in NHL Debut
The NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes were in a major bind, after injuries to both of their goalies. All teams are required to have an emergency goalie in the building, and the Carolina backup is 42-year-old David Ayres, who just happens to be the maintenance man and zamboni driver at the arena. He’s never been on the ice during a professional game before but was handed a jersey and thrown into action where he made eight straight saves to help Carolina win the game! He was paid 500 bucks and got to keep his jersey.
