Pentagon Policy Official John Rood Resigns at President’s Request

The Pentagon’s top Policy Official, John Rood, has resigned at the request of President Trump. Rood, who worked under Secretary of Defense for Policy at the Pentagon, was one of several advisers who warned the president against withholding military aid from Ukraine last year. He is the most recent official to be removed from their position by the president following the controversy for which the president was almost impeached for. It’s reported that Rood also left his position for several other reasons. In his official resignation letter to the president dated yesterday, Rood wrote, “It is my understanding from Secretary Esper that you requested my resignation. Officials appointed by the president serve at the pleasure of him, and therefore, as you have requested, I am providing my resignation effective February 28, 2020.”
