Florence County Schools Installing High-Tech Vaping Detectors

New high-tech vaping detectors will be installed in Florence high schools following what officials are calling an “epidemic”. The devices, located in “strategic locations”, can pick up traces of hazardous chemicals such as e-cigarettes, THC, and carbon monoxide. They also have microphones that detect sounds such as bullying, gunshots, breaking glass, and more. Alerts from the device are sent to the principal via email. West Florence’s principal has said within just the first week detectors have caught 12 offenders. Due to their success, they will be implemented in other schools throughout the county.
