Wuhan Coronavirus Has Killed Nearly 500 People, Infected Almost 25,000

The death toll from the Wuhan coronavirus has risen to almost 500, with over 25,000 confirmed cases. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern last week. But they’ve stopped short of labeling it a pandemic, or a world-wide spread of the disease, despite over 190 confirmed cases across 25 countries. They consider the virus to be an epidemic in multiple locations since the majority of cases are isolated to china but hard to contain due to global mass movement. Presently, about 3,700 people are quarantined on a Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan after the first of ten passengers tested positive for the virus. The ship ended its trip early and has remained docked in Yokohama while every individual passenger is checked using a test that can take up to five hours to produce results.
