Senate to Vote on Articles of Impeachment Today
Today the senate will vote on the articles of impeachment and will almost certainly acquit President Trump. Yesterday, both house managers and the president’s defense team concluded their final arguments and each senator gave a short speech detailing why they voted a certain way. The decision to not call witnesses in the trial was a major factor in the trial’s outcome and quick end but democrats could still subpoena witnesses to be called forth at a later date if they decide it’s necessary. Many have already begun to call for the censure of the president even before this final vote is cast. An idea that was initially proposed by Senator Joe Manchin as he gave his final remarks the other day. However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer both stated at the State of the Union address last night that censuring the president “is not on the table.”
