WHO Declares Wuhan Coronavirus a Global Health Emergency

The World Health Organization has declared the Wuhan coronavirus an international health emergency. Almost 10,000 people have been infected with now over 200 people killed. 60 million people in China are under partial or full lock downs. Another case of the virus has been confirmed in the U.S. and the CDC has now issued their highest advisory warning against traveling to China. The WHO says the alarming rate of those being infected along with evidence of spreading through person-to-person transmission outside of China is what prompted them to make the decision to intervene. The WHO’s biggest concern right now is “the potential for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems which are ill-prepared to deal with them.” They also added they “continue to have confidence in China’s capacity to control the outbreak” and will simply assist them on a bigger scale.
