Senate Impeachment Trial Could End by Tomorrow with Acquittal

The senate impeachment trial could end as early as today with the acquittal of President Donald Trump. Closing statements by both parties are set to take place today. Each side will have two hours to deliver their final remarks before voting on whether or not to allow witnesses in the trial. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was hopeful republicans would know “in their hearts” what the right decision to make was, but it seems he may have been mistaken after key republican, Lamar Alexander, announced he will be voting against witnesses. With Alexander’s vote, it appears there are currently 50 votes against moving ahead. It’s likely the president’s impeachment trial will come to a conclusion by tonight and end with his acquittal. Democrats, however, say they will not stop fighting.
