Senate Impeachment Trial Questioning Begins

The first day of questions in the senate impeachment trial was yesterday and here’s what you need to know. One of the more controversial statements given at the hearing was by Alan Dershowitz, who is part of the president’s defense team. He said that quid pro quo instigated by the president was made with the intention of re-election in mind and cannot be considered an impeachable offense. Of course many people were outraged and argued this defense was extremely weak. A president should not be exempt from punishment for attempting something illegal in the name of re-election. The white house has also sent a formal threat to former National Security Advisor John bolton that prevents him from publishing his manuscript. the white house claims information bolton has used in his book is classified at the top secret level and the release of that information could “cause exceptionally grave harm to national security.”
