Possible Expansion of Coastal Carolina University
The city of Myrtle Beach and Coastal Carolina University are considering expanding their partnership. The new plans would expand the university to include turning an old church into a charter school, giving grad students their own space in the city’s library, and establishing an entirely new CCU Myrtle Beach campus. The proposed deal is considered to be very positive as it would spark revitalization of the down town area, foster connections between Myrtle Beach businesses and students, and create 179 new jobs in the construction phase alone. According to James Lima Planning and Development consultants, it’s expected to cost upwards of $2.6 million dollars.
