Senate Impeachment Trial Begins, GAO Announces President Broke Law
The official senate impeachment trial has begun as of yesterday afternoon and already much has happened.
It was announced shortly after the trial began by the Government Accountability Office that the Trump Administration did in fact break the law by withholding aid after the Ukraine phone call. The $214 million was originally allocated to the Department of Defense but appropriated by congress. And by refusing the allocation just because they didn’t agree with it, they broke the law. There are still those, however, who disagree and say this announcement is only an opinion and that withholding the funds were well within their rights of the administration. They believe the GAO made the announcement just to gain media attention.
