Tensions Continue to Grow Between The U.S. and Iran
At least 35 people were killed in a stampede that interrupted General Qasem Soleimani’s funeral procession. Along with those killed, over fifty people were injured. About one million people took to the streets in Soleimani’s hometown to mourn him and protest. It’s speculated that high levels of congestion and overcrowding were the cause of the stampede. One thing is clear, the political unrest of Iraqi’s and Iranian’s is reaching dangerous levels and the conflict the U.S. currently faces with them is affecting the entire world. Over the weekend, Iraq’s parliament voted to end the U.S.’ presence in their country and the oil infrastructure of Saudi Arabia was assumed to be the first major target. As a result, many oil company stocks have dropped, and the price of oil has risen, some by as much as 6%. Chevron also recently announced it pulled all of its american workers from Iraq shortly after the air strike.
