United Methodist Church Announces Plans to Split

A historic decision was made this weekend as the United Methodist Church announced plans to split after years of on-going disagreements. The split was determined to be the best course of action for the church after they failed to come to an agreement concerning LGBTQ rights. This included ordaining gay clergies and performing same-sex weddings. Sixteen church representatives decided the fate of the church which currently consists of over 13 million members worldwide, with half of them in the United States alone. Reverend Keith Boyette said the separation is “a fair and equitable solution that puts decades of conflict behind us and gives us a hopeful future.”
