60-Year-Old Woman Killed by Falling Debris

Falling debris in New York City struck and killed a 60-year-old woman yesterday morning. Erica Tishman was walking past 729 7th ave., which is occupied by  Himmel + Meringoff Properties, when the debris fell and killed her. Department of buildings spokeswoman Abigail Kunitz refused to comment on what the falling debris was or what caused it to fall but says engineers will conduct an investigation into the stability of the building. According to city records, the Department of Building Inspectors issued them a class one ticket violation, which is the highest level of severity, eight months prior that said the company had failed “to maintain the exterior building façade” and needed to be fixed immediately. The company paid a $1,250 fine in connection with the violation. Tishman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was an architect in Manhattan and served on the Board of Directors for the Educational Alliance. She was a graduate of Princeton and Harvard and is said to have left behind a hole in the hearts of those who knew her.
