Possible Troop Reduction in Afghanistan

The Trump Administration finally plans to announce the reduction of about 4,000 troops from Afghanistan. President Trump previously stated his intentions to withdraw troops from the region, where between 12,000 and 13,000 US troops currently serve. The smaller US military presence that remains will focus mainly on counter-terrorism operations against terrorist groups and organizations and less on training local Afghan forces. The announcement could come as early as next week, but officials say it remains up in the air. The administration hopes after some time they will be able to re-evaluate the situation and hopefully proceed to withdraw even more troops.
