Retired NFL Players Accused of Defrauding the League
Twelve retired NFL players are being accused of defrauding the league’s retirement health care plan. Clinton Portis and Joe Horn are among those being accused and indicted for defrauding upwards of 3.9 million dollars from the league’s retiree health care benefits. Between June of 2017 and December of 2018, players allegedly submitted false health care claims and sought reimbursement for medical equipment that was never purchased. Ten have currently been indicted by the Department of Justice with two more on the way. Four were arrested and the other six willingly turned themselves in. The government plans to file several more charges against them, as well.
