Embassy Opens

Violence in Gaza overnight following yesterday's opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

The violence in Gaza continues. Israeli forces have responded with airstrikes, but the anger here is unabated, driven, at least in part, by yesterday’s ceremony to officially move the U.S. embassy in Israel from the city of Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a city Palestinians claim as their own. In a video message at the ceremony, President Trump hailed the decision, just before Palestinian leaders denounced it. They say the embassy move will derail peace efforts. But from the White House perspective, the Middle East is littered with one failed peace effort after another, and a new approach, they think, could just work.
