Hot Situation in Hawaii

New fissures have created more concerns for residents of Hawaii's big island.

More residents and businesses affected as lava continues to flow on Hawaii’s big island. Fissure 16 has erupted just northeast of the Puna Geothermal Venture, putting lower Puna on edge once again. As the magma heads east, so are the officials. They’ve recently started preparing people to let them know that they may need to leave soon. The major concern for people in Sea View and Kalapana is road access. Highway 137, also know as Red Road, shows the untouched beauty of Hawaii. But it’s the only way in and out. County crews have been checking the sulfur dioxide in Kalapana. The National Guard has also been canvassing the area, but some still feel left in the dark. The hard reality is the beloved community may never be the same.
