Out of Class in Oklahoma

Oklahoma classrooms remain empty today as the teacher strike ramps up at the capitol.

Classes are canceled for an eighth consecutive day in classrooms across Oklahoma as the statewide teacher walkout over public school funding continues for a second week.Teachers are demanding more money for public education, and until the state legislature meets their demand of $50 million in funding, the protest will continue. Tuesday, 50,000 people marched 100 miles from from Tulsa to the capitol, in Oklahoma City – to protest for the extra money – and also urge lawmakers to repeal the capital gains tax exemption. Teachers in Arizona are also organizing a statewide walkout, following in the footsteps of Oklahoma, West Virginia and Kentucky.
