Still Shutdown

The work week begins this morning with the federal government at least partially shut down.

The federal government shutdown technically started Friday night, but the larger impact will really begin to be felt today. Congress isn’t making much headway, as efforts over the weekend to resolve a funding impasse failed, with another vote scheduled today. Most Democrats are holding out for protections for illegal immigrants who came the country as children. President Trump has tweeted support for using the nuclear option in the Senate, which would change the rules to effectively end the filibuster, but that strategy seems unlikely to be used. Whether it’s the Obama administration in 2013 or the Trump administration in 2018, any administration has a lot of latitude in how these shutdowns play out.
