Shutdown Looming

The Senate will convene today, struggling to set a plan to avoid a partial government shutdown tonight.

There will be some last-ditch efforts today to come up with a short-term deal to avoid a partial government shut down, but there isn’t much optimism on Capitol Hill. There was some progress yesterday with the house passing a short-term spending deal to keep the government open for about a month to try to come up with a longer-term agreement. The Senate will convene later today, with Republicans short about a dozen votes and Democrats holding out for protections for illegal immigrants brought here as children- the DACA deal that some Republicans consider amnesty. If a deal is not worked out by midnight, it would be the 19th partial government shutdown since 1976.
