Looking to ’18

It'll be 2018 when lawmakers are back to work in Washington, and there are already hints at what could be up first in Congress.

Despite numerous obstacles, Congress managed to overhaul the country’s tax code before the end of 2017. The next major legislative accomplishment and the first big political football of 2018 could be infrastructure. Since taking office, President Trump has hinted at wanting to fix and upgrade the country’s roads, bridges and tunnels. Immigration could also come up early in 2018. Democrats are hoping to gain some seats in the November midterms after victories in New Jersey, Virginia and Alabama- possible signs of frustration with the GOP. With the Republicans’ razor-thin margin in the senate beginning in January, the GOP may have to rely on Democratic support moving forward.
