Nate Hits the Gulf

Nate is now a tropical depression after striking the Gulf Coast as a Category One Hurricane.

Nate made landfall twice, both times as a category one hurricane, first in Louisiana, then in Biloxi, Mississippi. Rains soaked areas like Grand Isle, Louisiana, and strong winds brought down trees and power lines in Mississippi. At one point, more than one hundred thousand people were without power. Nate flooded downtown streets in Mobile, and washed away part of one pier, while sinking another nearby. Pensacola saw its own share of high waters. Overall, the region avoided what could have been yet another major storm. FEMA is providing assistance in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
