Preparing for Irma

Anxious residents up and down the Florida coast prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Irma.

Hurricane Irma has been battering the Caribbean with record winds and heavy rain and is expected to continue churning slowly toward Florida, with a potential direct hit this weekend. Evacuation orders are in effect in several counties. As people scramble to get their homes ready, there have been shortages of basic supplies like food, water, and gas. Highways have also been jammed up as tens of thousands hit the road, trying to get out before the storm arrives. A state of emergency declaration has already been made for Florida, and residents are warned not to underestimate the danger. People in Georgia and the Carolina are also bracing for Irma, which is expected to move north along the east coast after it hits Florida.
