Panthers Waive Safety Boston, Four Other Players

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have waived five players including safety Tre Boston, according to the team.

Cornerback Lou Young, fullback Devon Johnson, and tackles Jordan Rigsbee and Jake Rodgers were also waived.

Boston was drafted by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2014 draft. He had 16 starts in 42 regular season games with the Panthers.

Young  spent time on the practice squads of Baltimore, Jacksonville and Carolina since entering the league in 2104. He played in six games for the Panthers in 2016.

Johnson was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Marshall, but spent the entire 2016 season on injured reserve with a back injury.

Rigsbee joined the Panthers in 2016 as an undrafted rookie free agent from California. He suffered a knee injury in the team’s final preseason game and was placed on injured reserve.

Rodgers has been a practice squad player with the New York Giants and Panthers since entering the league in 2015.
