Casualty in Mosul
The U.S suffers its first death of a service member in the offensive to re-take the Iraqi city of Mosul from ISIS.
As intense fighting broke out in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk, near Mosul, a U. S. service member was killed by a roadside bomb. It is the first American fatality in the offensive to take back the largest city held by ISIS. About 300 soldiers are involved in the operation, along with Kurdish and Iraq forces. Explosions continue in the nearby city of Kirkuk as militants attack a police compound, signifying the re-taking of Mosul won’t end the fight against ISIS. Mosul is the last major hold-out for the terror group.
