American Red Cross accepting donations to victims of Hurricane Matthew
Visit redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word MATTHEW to 90999 to make a $10 donation
MYRTLE BEAHM S.C. (WFXB) – While Hurricane Matthew is long gone, the effects of the storm are still lingering in the Carolinas, and many residents need your help.
Most charities prefer monetary donations, but the Red Cross has put out a call for volunteers to help the affected areas in the Carolinas. If you can’t donate money or travel to affected areas, consider donating blood. The Red Cross had to cancel blood drives because of the storm, adding to an already urgent need for blood and platelets. The organization encourages everyone in parts of the country that aren’t affected, especially people who have type O blood, to make an appointment.
Apple has created a donation program that allows visitors to donate to the American Red Cross via iTunes to support Hurricane Matthew relief efforts. In a message posted on Monday, the company said 100% of of money pledged will be sent to the Red Cross, with donations available in $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 and $200 tiers.
Those who want to help people affected by Hurricane Matthew can assist by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting the word MATTHEW to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
