Juno Reaches Jupiter

NASA's Juno spacecraft has entered Jupiter's orbit.

The solar-powered spacecraft Juno has officially entered orbit around the planet Jupiter, marking the beginning of a 20-mointh, $1.1 billion mission to map the gas giant and send back data. The arrival was dramatic, with Juno firing its rockets in do-or-die autopilot to loop into the planet’s orbit because of the time difference between Earth and Jupiter. while in orbit, Juno will probe through the gaseous atmosphere for evidence of a dense core. The spacecraft, built by Lokheed-Martin, took off from Cape Canaveral in 2011.
