And the Nominee Is…

President Obama has nominated a widely-respected moderate to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court.

The pick is in: Federal Chief Justice Merrick Garland is President Obama’s nominee to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court following the death of Antonin Scalia. But the confirmation process is looking more like a battle. with many Senate Republicans looking to block any SCOTUS nomination until after the November election. It’s not an unusual precedent- both then-Senators Obama and Joe Biden voiced opposition to new Justices being named in election years. Nonetheless, some Republican Senators are willing to meet with Justice Garland today.
