Von Miller Admits To Illegal Play In Super Bowl 50
Von Miller admitted that he intentionally knocked Cam Newton’s fourth quarter fumble back towards the Panthers’ end zone.
Miller spoke with journalist Peter King of TheMMQB.com on Friday and confirmed his intentions.
“I thought Cam was going to jump on it, but I guess, I mean, he didn’t want to dive down there on it. I couldn’t fall on it, so I was just trying to, I don’t know, get it to one of our guys,†Miller told King.
It is illegal to for a defensive player to bat the ball toward the opponents goal line, according to NFL rules. However, the rule is rarely enforced and it was difficult to see Miller’s action amid the scrum for the loose ball.
Had the illegal bat been called, Carolina would have kept the ball trailing by a touchdown. Denver went on to score a touchdown, and win the Super Bowl 24-10 over the Panthers.
