Tony Stewart To Race Sunday At Atlanta Motor Speedway

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart is expected to race Sunday night in the Sprint Cup competition at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart sat out on the last three cup races after his car hit and killed Kevin Ward Jr. during a dirt car race in New York Aug. 9.

Stewart removed himself from the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen the next day and chose to skip the races at Michigan and Bristol Motor Speedway.

Stewart plans to speak publically at 1 p.m. Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell said: “Tony Stewart has received all necessary clearances required to return to all racing activities, and therefore is eligible to compete this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR has remained in constant contact with his race team, and we will stay very close to this situation as Stewart returns to competition.”

Stewart will make his return in his No. 14 Chevrolet.
