Unique Voices (Jennifer Stumm, viola)
Orchestral classics by great composers who propelled the musical thinking of their time to a new dimension, from Beethoven’s dramatic Egmont Overture to Wagner’s sensual Tristan und Isolde Prelude; from the distinctive modern voice of Paul Hindemith’s Trauermusik to the jaunty, folk-based Romanticism of Weber’s Andante e Rondo Ungarese (both works featuring acclaimed young violist Jennifer Stumm). As a tenth-anniversary tribute to the 9/11 tragedy, the LBS performs Nachamu by area composer Donald Sloan. Hungarian composer Bela Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, one of the most significant large-scale works of the 20th century, forms the centerpiece of this concert of cutting-edge music!
