Mrs. Maxie Raye Turner Leigh, age 81, of Lumberton, fulfilled her lifelong purpose on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. She met her Heavenly Father face-t0-face. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Frances Turner of Fairmont and her sister and brother-in-law, Dora and Carlyle McDonald of Red Springs. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Baxter Leigh, with whom she served faithfully in God‘s service for 49 years at the following churches: Patrick Baptist Church, Patrick, SC; Bladen Union Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC; Rozier Baptist Church, Lumberton, NC; Zion‘s Tabernacle Baptist Church, Lumberton, NC; Forest Acres Baptist Church, Lumberton, NC. They have served recently in their retirement as members of Rozier Baptist Church. She is also survived by her daughter, Crystal Leigh of Raleigh, as well as five sisters and three brothers-in-law: Mirra Smith of Cary, Doris Floyd of Lumberton, Sarah and Carl Almblad of Cary, Clementine and Raoul Maynard of Cary, Janice and Rufus Outland of Portsmouth, VA and many special nieces and nephews. Maxie is known for doing the little things that have encouraged so many of her family and friends, whether it was the delivery of some baked goods or vegetables, or a card remembering their birthday or other special occasion. Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Heaven is now a more precious place in the sight of the Lord. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday evening, July 14, 2011 from 7:00-9:00PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street, Lumberton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:00AM at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with Rev. Floyd Helms officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
