Hoyle, Julia

Julia Cornelia Alexander Hoyle, 85, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Central Carolina Community Hospital after a brief illness. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Casey Chapel, St. Luke United Methodist Church, Sanford, N.C. by the Reverend Gene Cobb. The family will receive friends and visitors after the service in the church fellowship hall. Julia was born October 2, 1925 and raised in Morganton, NC, the daughter of the late Marcus A. Alexander and the late Katherine Forney Bost Alexander. She graduated from Woman‘s College of University of North Carolina (UNC-G) in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and was a member of the Cornelian Society. Julia moved to Sanford, NC to work as Lee County‘s Home Extension Agent and was later hired as a Home Economics teacher in the Lee County School System. In 1952, Julia married James Womble Hoyle at her family home, Cedar Grove, in Morganton, NC. She and Jim were active and devoted members of St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Democratic Party and various civic and community organizations in Sanford. After Jim‘s death in 1980, Julia continued to enjoy her volunteer activities as well as her many friends in her bridge clubs and literary club. Surviving are her nieces Kathy Alexander Quinn of Morganton, NC, Jewel Hoyle Sauls of Goldsboro, NC, Julia E. Hoyle of Durham, NC and nephews Marcus Macon Alexander Jr. of Huntersville, NC and Kenneth R. Hoyle Jr. of Sanford, NC. She is also survived by nine grand-nieces-nephews, numerous cousins and countless friends. The family would like to express its grateful appreciation to the entire staff of Parkview for the compassionate and loving care extended to Julia for the many years of her residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to may make donations would consider the American Diabetes Association, the building fund of St. Luke United Methodist Church, 2916 Wicker Street, Sanford, NC 27330 and Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church, Route 12, Box 745, Morganton, NC 28655.
