Stuckey, Sr. was born in Hartsville, South Carolina on November 1, 1927 to the late Bessie Stuckey and Benjamin Heatley. He died on Thursday, June 23, 2011. His educational background includes Butler Elementary and High Schools, Hartsville, SC; Claflin University (BA degree); Tennessee State University (M.Ed); 30 hours above the Master’s degree at Clemson University and the University of Georgia. He served as Band Director at Whittimore High School, Conway, SC; Howard High School, Georgetown, SC; and Rosemary High School, Andrews, SC before moving to Anderson, SC to become band director at Westside High School in 1957. He also served briefly as Band Director at Southwood Jr. High School. After leaving music instruction, he went into Drivers’ Education and Safety Instruction for 8 years, teaching at Southwood Jr. High School and McCants Jr. High School. During this time he also owned and operated his own private commercial driving school. He then became Assistant Principal at McCants Jr. High School and eventually the Principal at South Fant Elementary School. After retiring from the school system, he began working as a real estate agent with the Ken Walker Agency and Remax Foothills Realty in Anderson, SC where he became a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club in 1999.
