“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 Mr. David McLeod, Sr., age 90, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Agapé Senior Rehabilitation Center of Conway, South Carolina after an extended illness. Mr. McLeod was born in Florence County on June 14, 1921, son of Warren and Willie Mae Hicks McLeod. He attended the public schools of Florence County and retired from Shaw Lumber Company as a truck driver. He was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church where he served faithfully; and was chairman emeritus of the Trustee Board, member of Men’s Club, and a member of the Missionary Society. He was also a member of the Morning Light #430 Masonic Lodge. Mr. McLeod was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 64 years, Joberta Bristow McLeod; a son, Gill Hodges McLeod; a daughter, Georgia Bass; two brothers, Willie McLeod and Charles McLeod; and two sisters, Moella Martin and Catherine Lee. He is survived by: his son, David (Deloris) McLeod, Jr. of Florence, SC; two daughters, Eulalia (Irvin) Charles of Decatur, GA and Diane M. Josey of Atlanta, Ga; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; six sisters, Alberta McLeod, Ollie Mae (Carlisle) Gainey, Buleah Gordon and Lillie Moore, all of Florence, SC; Carolyn Smith and Lottie McLeod of Jersey City, NJ; sister-in-law, Juanita McLeod of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
