Myers, Donald
(August 30, 1955 – June 25, 2011) Scranton: Donald E. Myers, 55, died Saturday night in a Marion hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Myers was born in Florence County, son of the late Maxie Howell and Gretchen (Greta) Ham Myers Sr. He received his under graduate and masters degree from Francis Marion University and his Doctorate in Educational Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Myers was a middle school and high school teacher for Florence County School District Number Three, a guidance counselor and elementary principle for the Darlington County School District, an instructor for Florence Darlington TEC and currently a middle school teacher and Social Studies Master Teacher for Florence County School District Number Three. He was a lifelong resident of Scranton, serving as its mayor for twenty-four years. He was a member of the Scranton Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher and deacon. Survivors include: one sister, Jane Myers Whittington and her husband, Dr. John Whittington of Marion; two brothers, Maxwell Howell Myers, Jr. of Florence and David Carson Myers of Columbia; two nephews, Dr. John Carson Whittington and his wife Alicia P. Whittington and Alex Myers Whittington, both of Marion and one great nephew, Myers Whittington of Marion. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 P. M. Tuesday in the Scranton Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Scranton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00P. M. until 5:00P.M. in the Scranton Baptist Church.
