Hooks, Sallie

Nichols- Sallie Stroud Hooks, 84, died peacefully Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. She was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late John Emory and Martha Jane Hewitt Stroud. She was a member of Green Sea Baptist Church where she belonged to the XYZ Sunday School Class. She loved helping others as showed through her work at Sunny Acres Nursing Home for many years and through her work with the church. She is survived by two sons, Edsel Wayne Hooks, Jr. and his wife Roseanne of Nichols and John Quincey “Quinn” Hooks and his wife Melissa of Effingham, S.C.; four sisters, Inez Register of Lexington, Doris Nance of Hartsville, Gloria Stroud of Columbia, and Wilma Devanny of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hooks was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Wayne Hooks, Sr.; two brothers, Cecil Stroud and Delano Stroud, and two sisters, Florine Catalano and Clara Harley. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Meares Funeral Home of Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols.
