Balton, Evelyn Lake
LAKE CITY: Mrs. Evelyn Lake Balton, 82, wife of Roger L. Balton, died Friday, June 10, 2011, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence, after an illness. Mrs. Balton was born on October 24, 1928, in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Clarence L. Lake and Mary Jane Robinson Lake. She was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and served as church secretary for Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City for over thirty-five years. Mrs. Balton was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, a former Sunday School teacher, WMU Director and choir member, and a faithful volunteer of the Meals-on-Wheels program. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed. Surviving are: Her husband, Roger L. Balton of Lake City; her children, Steve Balton of Lake City, Kay B. Floyd and her husband, Jack of Turbeville and Randy Balton and his wife, Patricia of Lake City; brothers, Vernon L. Lake and his wife, Clarice of St. Matthews, Glen L. Lake and his wife, Jeanie of Beaufort and Curtis L. Lake and his wife, Faye of Lexington; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Jane Balton. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1147, Lake City, SC 29560. Funeral services will be at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Saturday, June 11th at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 E. Highway 378 ByPass, Scranton.
