Bateman, John
John S. Bateman, Jr. (“Joe”), age 66, of Lumberton, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. He was born on August 1, 1944 in Nashville, TN to the late John S. Bateman, Sr. and the late Ellen McBryde Bateman. He was manager of FCX Grain Market for more than twenty years and a retired agent of Farm Bureau Insurance where he worked for over twenty years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jamie A. Stevens. Mr. Bateman is survived by his wife, Jean Ivey Bateman, of the home; a daughter, Ivey Bateman Goodwin of Wilmington, NC; a brother, Robert E. Bateman and wife, Jan of Jasper, GA; a sister, Mary Ellen Simmons and husband, Roger of Wilmington, NC; one grandson, Harold Jones Goodwin, III (“Trey”); two nephews, Scott Bateman and Lyle S. Stevens; two nieces, Ashley Raiford and Amy Teperson and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with Rev. Bill Pealer officiating. Burial will follow in Broad Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Orrum. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday evening, June 4, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street, Lumberton.
