Holmes, Mittie

Mittie Lee Shokes Holmes, 95, a beloved mother and the widow of John Oliver Holmes, entered into eternal rest Monday evening, May 23, 2011, at her daughters residence in Kingstree. Mrs. Holmes was born a daughter of Warren Jackson Shokes and Daisy Jane Morgan Shokes on November 18, 1915, in Georgetown, SC. Mittie and John were married September 30, 1939, and celebrated 32 years together. From their blessed union was born: six children, Vera H. Burgess, Judy (Charles) Allen, JD Holmes, David Holmes, and Donald Holmes, Jackie (Cyndi) Holmes; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She leaves behind one brother, David (Leola) Shokes; one sister, Vivian (Oscar) Richburg; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
