Bristow, Mazie Louise

Mrs. Mazie Louise Sellers Bristow was born to Reverend Walter S. Sellers and Melvina Wright Sellers on October 21, 1915 in the Mars Bluff Community of Florence County, South Carolina. She passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. Mazie attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Wilson High School. She furthered her education at Clafin University, Orangeburg, SC, receiving a B.A. degree in Education; her Master’s degree in Education from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC and completed the course work for her Doctorate at Howard University. Having taught in Timmonsville, SC and other counties in South Carolina, she retired after teaching for more than 50 years. Most of her educational career was spent at Brockington Elementary and Johnson Middle School in Timmonsville, South Carolina. She was married to the Reverend J. E. Bristow and accompanied him in his ministry throughout the state of South Carolina. Mazie is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Grafton and James Eugene; and six siblings, Ernest, Sr., Walter, Jr., Jerome, Sr., Sadie, Theodore and George. Her memory will be cherished by: three daughters, Evelyn Rey (Reynaldo), Barbara Fields (Eric) and Jacqueline Hamlin; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Regine Bristow; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
