LAKE CITY: Mr. Harry Russell Turner, 69, left the bonds of this earth to join his Lord and God in glory eternal on May 16th, 2011. Mr. Turner was born on December 7th, 1941. He was one of seven children of the late Edward Turner and the late Ethel Turner Prosser. Mr. Turner was the husband of Janet McKnight Turner. He was President of his 1960 graduating class from Lake City High School and he remembered each of his classmates with fond memories. Mr. Turner had a deep love for sports in school – especially football. He attended and played football for Wingate College and Colorado State University. Mr. Turner had the honor of being nominated All American and was later inducted in to the Wingate College Sports Hall of Fame. He was a life-long member of Lake City Presbyterian Church and acknowledged Christ as his Lord and Savior. He had a deep love for his church and appreciation for the many dedicated teachers. Mr. Turner later was a teacher in the J.D. Whitehead Sunday School Class. He served his church in the capacity of youth fellowship leader, Deacon, and Elder. In his career, Russell worked with CIT Financial for ten years and for Cherokee Toyota for ten years. He retired from King Cadillac after twenty-one years of service. Mr. Turner had passion for his work and enjoyed the many close relationships he formed with his co-workers and customers. Family was near and dear to his heart. Mr. Turner devoted any spare time to see his boys play ball and enjoyed trips to see his grandchildren participate in various activities. He also found pleasure in taking short trips with his loving wife to enjoy a leisurely evening meal. The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses that were so attentive to Russell during his illness. During his illness the love and kindness of his many friends was only outlived by their generosity. Mr. Turner‘s surviving family includes his wife of forty-six years, Janet M. Turner, of the home; his two sons, Mark Turner (Annette), of Louisville, Kentucky and Paul Turner (Julie), of Conyers, Georgia; his four delightful grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Caleb, Rachel, Paul Jr., and Caroline; his two brothers, Hubert Turner, of North Augusta, and Jimmy Turner, of Orangeburg; and his two sisters, Anne Lyons, of Lake City, and Carol Brown, of Orangeburg. Mr. Turner is preceded in death by his two brothers, Billy Turner and Ernest Turner; and his sister, Ida T. Webster. The family of Mr. Turner will have visitation from six until eight o‘clock p.m., Tuesday, May 17th, 2011 in the funeral home. Memorial services will be held at two o‘clock p.m., Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 in the Lake City Presbyterian Church. The pallbearers for Mr. Turner‘s service will be his coworkers from King Cadillac, and his honorary pallbearers will be his classmates from the Lake City High School Class of 1960.
