Robert Thomas Goodwin of Laurel Hill passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011 at the age of 75. A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday May 19, 2011 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Pastor Ed Pilarczyk. Robert was born in Scotland County on December 16, 1935, son of the late Vance and Josephine Goodwin. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Robert was the owner and operator for more than 50 years of Goodwin‘s Cylinder Head Shop formerly in Laurinburg. He was a member of the North Laurinburg Baptist Church and formerly served as a 40 year member of the Laurel Hill United Methodist Church. Robert loved to travel and go on vacations, he was proud to say that he had visited all states in the United States except Alaska. He was also a true lover of classic old cars. He was also preceded in death by a grandson Christopher Goodwin and a brother Richard Goodwin. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Edna Morris Goodwin of their home; sons, Ronnie Lee Goodwin of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Donald Ray Goodwin and wife Sharon of Laurel Hill; daughters, Barbara Ann Goodwin and special friend Jim Wrenne of Laurel Hill, Roberta “Robbie” Pickard and husband Ken of Chapel Hill; a brother, Charles Goodwin and wife Shirley of Laurel Hill; sisters, Betty Ann Alexander of Fulton, Missouri, Flora Bell Adams of Gibson; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00 prior to the service on Thursday at Richard Boles Funeral Service. The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made in memory of Mr. Goodwin to Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Carolina or to the North Laurinburg Baptist Church, 517 Lee‘s Mill Road, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
