COWARD: Mrs. Sarah Victoria Pate Smith, 77, wife of James Kenneth Smith, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, after an illness. Mrs. Smith was born May 31, 1933, in Coward, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Baxter Pate and Ada Filyaw Pate. She was a retired nursing assistant for Lake City Community Hospital and a member of Sand Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving are: Her husband, James Kenneth Smith of Coward; daughter, Brenda Gail S. Neil and her husband, Wayne of Coward; three sons, Ronald Lynn Smith and Richard B. Smith and his wife, Pam, all of Florence, and Christopher B. Smith of Coward; four granddaughters; four grandsons; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Magalene Lee, Shirley (Carl) Reynolds and Lucille (Harry) Driggers, all of Effingham, and Joyce (Roger) Baker of Savannah, GA; and one brother, Bobby (Nell) Pate of Coward. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wayne Smith and a brother, Lamar “Sonny” Pate. Memorials may be made to: Sand Hill Free Will Baptist Church, P. O. Box 240, Coward, SC 29530. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Nurses at McLeod Regional Medical Center, especially the CVICU Nurses, for all their care and concern for Mrs. Smith and her family. Memorial graveside services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, Coward. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the Fellowship Hall of Sand Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 1090 W. Old #4 Highway, Coward, SC.
