Mr. James Worth “Big Boy” Thomas, 91, of 9899 Hwy 301 North, was born June 9, 1919 in Robeson County and was the son of the late Mr. Troy Thomas and Mrs. Rosie Jane Barton Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his first wife: Mrs. Della Thomas; a daughter: Ms. Jerry Lou Patterson; a step-daughter: Ms. Betty Joe Hunt; a grandson: Mr. Gary Edward Thomas; a brother: Mr. Julius Andel Thomas and two sisters: Ms. Trulie Mae Chance and Ms. Rosa Ann Thomas. Mr. Thomas served proudly in the Marine Corps from December 31, 1941 until October 10, 1945 and was the owner and operator of Thomas Supply. Surviving are his wife: Mrs. Eva Jones Thomas; two sons: Mr. James Edward (Peggy) Thomas and Mr. David Earl (Brenda) Thomas both of Lumberton; three daughters: Mrs. Rosa Lee (James) Jacobs, Mrs. Vickie Thomas (Belton) Locklear both of Lumberton and Mrs. Della Mae Locklear of Pembroke; a sister: Ms. Connie Lee Brown of Marshville, NC; eighteen grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Saddletree Church of God. The funeral will be conducted 4:00 P.M. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Saddletree Church of God with the Revs: Kenneth Locklear and Robert Mangum officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery.
