Jones, Diane

April 11, 1955, Willie Mae Gregg Myers gave birth to a baby girl at McLeod Infirmary Hospital. God breathed the breath of life into her and she became a “living soul.” Thus Diane Myers, the eighth and last child of Woodrow and Willie May Gregg Myers started her “life‘s journey.” Diane attended Carver Elementary, Williams Junior High, Wilson High and later graduated from West Florence High School in 1973. Upon graduation, she entered Morris College in Sumter, SC. The next year she transferred to Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC where she earned her Bachelor‘s degree in Elementary Education in 1979. She also obtained a certificate in acupuncture for substance from Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. Diane taught kindergarten at Carver Elementary School following graduation. She was later employed at Pee Dee Community Action Agency (formerly Florence County CAA) in the Consumer Education Department under the supervision of Freddie “Bobby” Jolley. In 1982, Diane relocated to Bronx, New York. Diane was a substance and abuse counselor at Bridge Plaza Treatment and Rehabilitation in Long Island City, NY until an accident prohibited her from working. On September 30, 1995, she married Dr. John Franklin Jones, III in Brooklyn, New York. God who breathed the breath of life into Diane on April 11, 1955 received her spirit back to Him on March 23, 2011 at her home in Peekskill, New York. Diane will be remembered for her radiant smile, personality, love for her family, husband and humanity. Left to cherish precious memories are: her husband, Dr. John Franklin Jones, III of Peekskill, NY; a brother, Randolph Myers of Florence, SC; two sisters, Barbara Myers-Moses and Cora Myers of Charlotte, NC; two aunts, Trannie Gregg and Ethel Jackson Hyman of Florence, SC; mother-in-law, Christola W. Jones of Gainesville, FL; two brothers-in-law, Lynn P. Jones and Stacey W. Jones of Gainesville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
