Hiney, Bertie

Bertie Elliott Marshall Hiney, 92, the wife of William “Bill” Hiney and the widow of Benjamin “Buster” Marshall, went home to be with her Lord and joined her waiting loved ones on May 3, 2011, at the Trinity Hospital, Augusta, GA. She was born a daughter of Matthew Allen (Dodd) Elliott and Flossie Bell Cannon Elliott on September 27, 1918, in Andrews, SC. She was educated in Williamsburg County and in her childhood was part of the Piney Forest Baptist Church family. She was a member of the South Haven Baptist Church, Hephzibah, GA. Bertie and Buster were married in March, 1937, and celebrated 26 years together. From their blessed union was born: five children, Billie M. Wrenn, Benjamin “Kit” Marshall, Jr., Dora M. (Noot) Alford, Charles A. (Sandra) Marshall, Sr.,Jewel M. (Thomas) Murray; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. On February 24, 2001, Bertie was blessed to marry Bill Hiney and share the last part of her life with this wonderful man. She leaves behind: one brother, D.W. Elliott; three sisters, Dorothy Ethridge, Flossie Mae Webb, and Annie Laurie Cumbie; and a large number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: a husband; a son, Kit; a granddaughter, Donna Wrenn Coefield; a great-grandson, Ty Suchnick; three brothers, Carl Elliott, Ralph Elliott, and Harley Elliott; and a sister, Nonie Elliott. A Home Going Celebration will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Piney Forest Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 PM prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
