Mrs. Mary Ellen Locklear Chavis Seigler of Gibson passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the age of 81. Mary Ellen was born February 15, 1930 in Robeson County, daughter of the late Jimmy Robert Locklear and Mary Liza Oxendine Locklear. She was the beloved wife of the late Belton Chavis, Sr. and her second husband, the late William H. Seigler. She was a devoted homemaker and retired from Stanley Furniture Company after many years of service. She served as a longtime faithful member of Gibson Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mary enjoyed fishing, gardening and also quilting. She was a precious and loving mother and grandmother. Mary is survived by her children, Belton Chavis, Jr. and wife Diane, William Howard Chavis and wife Barbara, James E. Chavis and wife Cynthia, Charles Chavis all of Gibson, Willie Scott Chavis of Lumberton; her daughters, Catherine Chavis-DeBerry and husband Terry of Gibson, Ann Taylor and husband William of Gibson; step son, David Seigler of Wadesboro; sixteen grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Ronnie Hudson, Maxine Quick, James Quick and a host of family and friends She was also preceded in death by step daughter, Billie Pratt; grandchildren, Wilton Ray Chavis, Sandy Paul Chavis, Laura D. Chavis, James E. Chavis, Jr., brothers, Jimmy Robert Locklear, Henry Locklear, Wilson Locklear; sisters, Roney Strickland, Christine Jones, Loula Bell Chavis, Ruthie Locklear and Mary Liza Brooks. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30th at Richard Boles Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the St. John United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Thomas Buck and Rev. L.J. Young. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery.
