Blatnica, Steve

Steve “Sonny” Blatnica passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Roberta (Bobbie); two children, daughter, Claudine Renee Hargraves of Quarryville, PA and son, Scott David Blatnica of Greensburg, PA. In addition, he has seven grandchildren, ages 7 through 18 years of age. Born in Pittsburg, PA, he was the only child of Stephen and Helen Blatnica, both of whom are deceased. He attended High School at Saint Vincent Prep in Latrobe, PA. After high school, he joined the Navy at age 17 and spent the next four years studying electronics and traveling throughout the United States and Japan. After the service, he attended Duquesne University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1965. While attending college, he was employed by US Steel and chose to spend 35 years with them traveling throughout the US in a variety of positions before coming back to Pittsburgh as Director of Steel Systems Development. He was an avid sports fan who followed his Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates no matter where he lived. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
